Washington PTA Certification and License Requirements

Upon graduating from a CAPTE-accredited institution, individuals seeking licensure as Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) in Washington must satisfy the above certification requirements. First, you must graduate from a college-level associate degree (AA) program approved by the Washington State Board of Physical Therapy. Secondly, you need to pass the Washington State Physical Therapy Jurisprudence Exam and the National Physical Therapist Assistant Examination (NPTE), which ensures a minimum standard of knowledge and competence.

Additionally, license renewal is required annually, involving 24 hours of continuing education and 200 hours of employment every two years. Suicide prevention training is mandatory, with PTAs obligated to complete three hours of such training.
