Online PTA Programs

If you require more flexibility with your studies and the option to study on evenings or at the weekends then you could consider an online program. However it is worth advising that the majority of time spent studying to become a PTA is actually spent in clinical work practice and not in a classroom environment. So whilst you might be able to complete the academic element of your studies with some flexibility you will still need to present for workplace experience.

As such there are no 100% online courses available to become a PTA.

Associates Degree

Most States require at least an associates degree from a CAPT accredited program to qualify as a Physical Therapist Assistant. As part of your studies you will learn general theory and physical therapy practices. You will also study basic medical sciences, general business courses and also obtain hands on work experience.

An associates degree will take approximately 2 years to complete. Additionally you will need to complete a national licensure exam as required by most States.

Selecting the best Physical Therapy Assistant School

Important points to consider when selecting a PTA School include;

  • Is the School Accredited?
  • How long does the program last?
  • Class structure – how much of the course will be classroom based, lab based and field based and how does this fit with your expectations?
  • Does the School have good lab facilities and other resources to support your studies?
  • What percentage of graduates are successful in securing their PTA license?
  • Does the School offer any financial assistance?
